Reno is a LEED Gold certified city through the United States Green Building Council (USGBC) LEED for Cities and Communities. The City achieved this certification in December, 2022.
Reno is a 2021 U.S. Conference of Mayors, Mayors Climate Protection Award winner - Large City Honorable Mention.
Reno is a 2024 U.S. Conference of Mayors, Mayors Climate Protection Award winner - Large City First Place.
Purpose
The Environmental Services Division oversees Micromobility, Gas and Electric, and Waste Management franchise agreements, the City of Reno sustainability efforts including stakeholder engagement, operational efficiency and impact, and coordinates with our many partner utilities.
Sustainability
Reno Resilience is the City of Reno’s sustainability and climate program. It embodies our city leaders commitment to create a more sustainable and resilient community. The goal of the Sustainability Program is to establish well-focused initiatives that promise to strengthen Reno’s reputation as one of the world’s leading cities while also improving the day-to-day quality of life for all of the City’s residents. In a community and a world that face grave threats from climate change, sustainability initiatives are of the utmost importance. From simple changes in day-to-day operation of the city government to innovative growth strategies, we are committed to the creation of a community all of us are proud to call home.
Sustainability and Climate Action Plan
The 2019-2025 Sustainability and Climate Action Plan is the result of our commitment to develop, adopt and implement ambitious and measurable actions to reduce climate pollution. Well-focused initiatives on sustainability promise to strengthen Reno’s reputation as one of the nation’s leading cities.
The actions outlined in this plan will protect the cornerstones of the Reno-area economy and provide for new economic opportunities and the creation of new jobs. Actions will also enhance the lives of residents every day — from more shade trees along city streets to walkable neighborhoods that create safety and a sense of community.
