The City of Reno was awarded a Brownfields Communitywide Assessment and Coalition Grant to focus on assessments and cleanup and adaptive re-use planning in downtown Reno.

  • Redevelop properties within the downtown area to support overall revitalization
  • Promote development of new housing at all income levels
  • Phase I Environmental Site Assessments (ESA)
  • Phase II ESA
  • Environmental Remedial Action Plans (RAP)
  • Hazardous Building Material Assessments (Lead & Asbestos)
  • Hazardous Building Materials Abatement Plans
  • Timeline for sampling assessments can be longer than industry standard due to Federal ties
  • Some properties may be ineligible depending on previous environmental due diligence and current ownership
  • Grant does not cover cleanup or abatement costs

History of the Brownfield Grant in Reno

On July 29,2020, the Seattle Office of the Environmental Protection Agency awarded a $600,000 Brownfield Coalition Assessment Grant award to the City of Reno and its partners - the Redevelopment Agency of the City of Reno and the Community Foundation of Northern Nevada. The grant will allow the City to conduct investigations of potentially contaminated properties (both public and private) and plan for their remediation (clean up) in advance of re-use or redevelopment.
