Applications will be received July 1, 2026 – July 31, 2026 and again January 1, 2027 - January 31, 2027 on a first come first serve basis. You can only apply for the rebate one time during a 12 month period.

  •  If you own a residential property or renter within the City of Reno limits and receive a sewer bill AND you are receiving benefits from one of the following:

    • The Nevada State Welfare Division Energy Assistance Program (EAP)
    • Water and Sewer Assistance Program (WSAP) via DWSS
    • Veterans Administration Disability (VA) benefits due to a disability (Veteran only)
    • Social Security Disability Income (SSD) due to a disability
    • Supplemental Social Security Income (SSSI)
    • Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (Snap)

    The eligibility letter must be dated within the last year.

The sewer utility assistance will be decided once Reno City Council approves the new budget for next fiscal year.

Homeowners 

  • Application - correct year, signed and dated
  • Eligibility: Only one of the options is needed (dated within the last year)
    • Current VA Disability letter, annual letter of determination for SSSI or SSD
    • Annual Verification of Benefits Letter for SSSI or SSD
    • Annual acceptance letter of benefits from Nevada State Welfare Division Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program EAP, WSAP
    • Annual  determination letter from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program(SNAP)
  • Proof of residency: 
    • Government issued ID 
    • Utility Bill – NV Energy, TMWA, Sewer Bill (if in their name), etc.

Renters/Tenants

Application - correct year, signed and dated

  • Eligibility: Only one of the options is needed (dated within the last year)
    • Current Veterans Affairs (VA) Disability Determination Letter
    • Annual Verification of Benefits Letter for SSSI or SSD
    • Annual acceptance letter of benefits from Nevada State Welfare Division Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program EAP, WSAP
    • Annual  determination letter from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program(SNAP)
  • Proof of residency
    • Government issued ID 
    • Utility Bill – NV Energy, TMWA, Sewer Bill (if in their name), etc.
  • Rental or Lease agreement within the last year
  • Rent receipt for most recent month
    • Tenant portion must be a minimum of $100
The City of Reno sewer utility assistance offers a yearly one-time payment to help with sewer costs.

The sewer rebate program runs from July 1st through July 31st then again from January 1st through January 31st each year. (Can only be applied for 1 time in a 12-month period)

Submit the completed application with all necessary backup and supporting documents through any of the following options: 

  1. In person at City Hall: 1st floor Monday–Friday, 9 a.m.–4 p.m.

Mailed applications must be postmarked between July 1st and July 31st or January 1st and January 31st each year. Only one application will be approved each year per household. Applications posted mark outside of the dates stated will not be accepted.
