Community Action and Outreach Mission Statement

Community Action and Outreach Officers (CAO) are dedicated to infusing the principles of community Oriented Policing and Problem Solving (COPPS), Crime fighting, Crime Prevention through Environmental Design (CPTED), resource management, and innovation into our community and within the department.

CAO Officers are dedicated to working with our community partners and city departments to create a safe, vibrant city with emphasis on community engagement and providing the highest level of police services.

The unit currently consists of eight Officers and two Sergeants.

CAO works with the City Manager’s Office and other Clean and Safe entities to ensure that citizens in need are provided with the resources needed.

CAO Officers also work hand in hand with the mental health clinicians assigned to the Mobile Outreach Safety Team (MOST). Officer N. Reed coordinates the MOST team and their efforts to connect citizens experiencing mental health crisis with the appropriate resources.

Officer T. Burrow coordinates the HELP program and can assist Citizens with reconnecting with their support networks as well as assisting with travel costs in certain circumstances.

Officer C. Reed coordinates the CRIME FREE MULTI-HOUSING initiative which is an important tool that the unit has been using to improve relationships with business owners, apartment managers, and citizens. The unit is primarily responsible for teaching the program and implementing the principles associated with it.
