Do you ever wonder how your City government works? Who your City Council representative is? How staff decides which streets to repair or what streets are first to be plowed after a snowstorm? The Reno Citizens Institute will answer all those questions and many more!
The annual Reno Citizens Institute (RCI) offers an opportunity for participants to gain valuable insight into City operations so they can share this information with friends and neighbors to help improve our quality of life. RCI is a free, ten-week program and holds weekly classes in the evenings. Through the various sessions, presentations, tours, and exercises participants will:
- Learn about the City of Reno government structure and meet elected officials and City staff
- Learn about the City of Reno departments and their operations
- Learn about the programs and services provided by the City of Reno
- Connect with neighbors in your community

RCI at a Glance:
Activities include a mock Planning Commission meeting as participants and City staff take on various roles. Participants also visit the 911 dispatch center to get a taste of the fast paced and inner workings of public safety. A trip to a local fire station includes trying on some of the fire fighting gear and seeing the apparatus up close. Designing a park within a budget and deciding what features to include is always a challenge, and lots of fun!
