Sabra Newby became Reno’s City Manager on May 8, 2017 and has more than 15 years of experience in state and local government. She has worked in homeless policy, neighborhood services and intergovernmental relations at the City of Las Vegas and as a state and local government consultant in the Chicago office of KPMG, LLP.
Before coming to the City of Reno, Sabra was the Assistant County Manager of Clark County, Nevada. Prior to that, she held several positions within Clark County, including Director of Administrative Services and Director of Intergovernmental Relations.
Sabra is an active member of the International City/County Management Association (ICMA), and is currently Vice President of the Local Government Managers of Nevada (LOGMAN). She achieved the status of ICMA Credentialed Manager in August 2016.
A native Nevadan, Sabra has a bachelor’s degree in political science with a minor in economics from Wellesley College and a Masters of Public Policy degree from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.
