For 27 years, Jennifer Lances has proudly and successfully served local government in Nevada, and many of those years have been spent in high-level managerial and leadership positions.

Jennifer brought her wealth of government experience to the City of Reno in January 2018. In addition to being brought in to streamline processes and assist staff in meeting the City Council’s goals and objectives, her role also includes directing the following City of Reno departments:

  • Arts, Culture and Special Events
  • Department of Information Technology (IT)
  • Human Resources
  • Legislative Relations and Government Affairs
  • Office of Communications and Community Engagement (OCCE)

In addition, Jennifer is leading the development and establishment of the City of Reno’s new Neighborhood Services Department.

Prior to joining the City of Reno, she held several leadership positions at the City of Las Vegas and Clark County in southern Nevada. 

At the City of Las Vegas, she most recently served as Deputy Administrative Services Director. In that role, she supervised the operations, budget and personnel of the Office of Administrative Services comprised of: Special Assistants to Mayor and City Council, Special Events, Organizational Development and Training, Office of Emergency Management, Legislative Affairs and Policy Analysis/Performance Management. 

Her work experience at Clark County included a tenure as Assistant Director of Administrative Services and touched multiple areas and divisions including Policy and Analytical Services, Organizational Development, Park Police, Code Enforcement, Animal Control, Legislation Affairs, Town Services and Emergency Management. She was a liaison to several high profile county task forces and helped oversee the county’s citizen engagement and neighborhood services efforts.

Lances holds an M.P.A. from the Nelson A. Rockefeller College of Public Affairs and Policy, State University of New York at Albany, as well as a B.A. from the State University of New York at Albany. 

In her free time, Jennifer enjoys traveling and attending local concerts. Having spent several years in southern Nevada, she is looking forward to exploring everything that northern Nevada has to offer and experiencing the other side of the state.
