We’re excited to share that a new dog play area is in the works at Northwest Park in Reno thanks to Sierra Nevada Realtors! The proposed location is on the former community garden site off Apollo Way, near the baseball fields — a spot perfectly suited for a new community space.
The first step is City of Reno Parks team will remove leftover irrigation from an old garden space. Once that’s cleared, a group of volunteers from Sierra Nevada Realtors will spend a Saturday helping us clean up the area by removing weeds, debris, and trash.
After the site is cleaned and prepped, the City of Reno’s crew will come in to finish the job. That includes more technical work like repairing the gates and getting the site ready for public use.
The City of Reno is prioritizing funding to install a double-gate entry system, which is a key safety feature in most dog parks. This ensures there’s a secure area when entering or exiting the park, so dogs don’t slip out unexpectedly. Our goal is to secure the fence, remove debris, and get the space open. We’ll be able to add different amenities overtime only with the support of our community.
Another important note: This park will be open to dogs of all sizes, and visitors should be aware that the City of Reno is not responsible for injuries that may occur. We want everyone to enjoy the park responsibly and respectfully.
If all goes according to plan, we’re aiming to open the dog park by Summer 2025.
