Final List of Candidates

Primary Election:  June 12, 2018

General Election:  November 6, 2018

Candidate Filing Period:  March 5 through 5:00 pm (PST) March 16, 2018 

Candidate Filing Place:  Reno City Clerk’s Office, 1 East First Street, 2nd Floor

Appointments are available and highly recommended.  Please email the Reno City Clerk Ashley D. Turney at or call 775.334.2030 to schedule your appointment.  Walk-in candidate filing will be accepted, however, appointments are preferred, and will be taken first.

FILING FEE:  $30.00 (Must be paid with cash, cashier’s check, or money order)


Councilmember - Mayor (4 year term)

            Current officer holder – Hillary Schieve

Councilmember - Ward 2 (4 year term)

            Current officer holder – Naomi Duerr

Councilmember - Ward 4 (4 year term)

             Current office holder – Paul McKenzie

City Attorney (4 year term)

              Current office holder – Karl Hall

Candidate Qualifications:


  • Must be an actual resident of the ward they represent, or if representing the City at large, a resident of the City of Reno, for at least 30 days prior to the last date for candidate filing. Councilmembers elected by ward must continue to live within that ward for the term of office.
  • Must be a qualified elector within the City.

City Attorney:

  • Must be an attorney licensed to practice law in the State of Nevada.
  • Must be a resident of the City of Reno for at least 30 days prior to the last date for candidate filing.
  • Shall not engage in the private practice of law.
  • Must be a qualified elector within the City.

Voter Registration Deadlines for the 2018 General Election

  • By Mail:  Postmarked no later than October 9, 2018
  • In-Person:  Last day to register in person is October 16, 2018
  • Online:  Last day to register online is October 18, 2018 (11:59:59 p.m.)
