Site Visit

When: Friday, June 5, 7:30 - 8:30 a.m.
Where: 3050 Skyline Blvd. Reno, NV

We invite all participants to visit the site. Representatives from TMWA, NVASLA, and the City of Reno will be available to identify the project area and answer any questions. To visit the site we ask that everyone wear a face mask and practice social distancing. Parking is available at Gojack Park located immediately south of the subject site.

Virtual Design Charrette, 10 a.m.-3 p.m.

From the comfort of your personal computer. For planning purposes please register by Noon on Monday, June 1, 2020. Late registrations will be allowed.

The Project

The site currently has ±4,700 square feet of turf area; a large, nonfunctional fountain; and a number of raised planters and ground level landscape areas. The City proposes to remove ±3,000 square feet of turf and the nonfunctional fountain to install landscaping that demonstrates Water-Wise, Fire-Safe, and Urban Tree Canopy concepts. The site has predominately spray irrigation that needs to be upgraded to introduce current water-efficient technology.

The Program

Following the site visit opportunity, we ask that participants log into the virtual design charrette venue
by 10:00 a.m. The program will begin with introductions and brief presentations regarding the historic nature of the original landscape and building, Water Wise and Fire Safe landscaping, and Urban Tree Canopy concepts.

Following the presentations the participants will be separated into smaller working groups to develop design concepts which embrace the three design practices while preserving some historic aspects of the original landscape intent. After the breakout session, groups will reconvene to present their team’s design ideas.

The day will end with a final discussion of the results. Sketches, sections, design concepts, notes and other drawings will be collected and used to develop a final design and construction drawing for the construction of the landscape retrofit by fall 2020.
