Each month of May, the City of Reno celebrates our seniors in the community with various events and activities. Come and join us for a fun-filled month!

Senior Art Show

Seniors, 60 and older, are invited to showcase their creativity by submitting up to two art pieces for the Senior Art Show.

The exhibit will be open to the public:

• April 13 - May 21, Monday - Thursday, 9am - 4pm at the McKinley East & West Galleries, 925 Riverside Drive

Reception:

May 5, 5pm - 7pm, McKinley Arts and Culture Center, 925 Riverside Drive

Ice Cream Socials

Join us for our annual ice cream socials! Enjoy free ice cream from Super Swirl. Bring unwanted documents to shred free of cost! Events will be held at various dates and locations.

Senior Day at the National Automobile Museum 

Enjoy a free day at the National Automobile Museum and explore an impressive collection of classic, vintage, and one-of-a-kind vehicles! Registration is required, reserve your spot!

Now Accepting Applications: Older Adults Home Modification Program

The Older Adults Home Modification Program is currently accepting applications! Eligible applicants must:

• Be 62 years of age or older; 
• Have an income at or below 80% of the Area Median Income (AMI); and
• You must own your home, live in it as your primary residence for a least a year, provide proof of ownership (through a current property tax statement or current homeowners insurance policy), and intend to remain in the home for at least two years after receiving free repairs from RTNNV.

Our community partner, Rebuilding Together Northern Nevada (RTNNV), is managing the application process on behalf of the program.

As of April 2023, a significant milestone was reached as one million dollars of ARPA (American Rescue Plan Act) funding was allocated to support seniors in our community. The funds were used to partner with Neighbor Network of Northern Nevada, Reno Food Systems, and Senior Engagement.

Join us for free line dance classes for seniors taught by Sara B Dancin'. No experience needed! Classes are held every Monday from 1:30pm-3pm and every Wednesday from 1:30pm-2:30pm at the Evelyn Mount Northeast Center, (1301 Valley Road).

The City of Reno is thrilled to announce the award of $5,000 through the AARP Community Challenge to support the continued revitalization of the Paradise Park Community Garden, in partnership with Reno Food Systems. This funding will enhance the garden with expanded programs and activities helping to activate the space for older adults and the broader community.

The AARP Community Challenge is a grant program to make tangible improvements in communities that jump-start long-term change. It is part of AARP’s nationwide Livable Communities initiative, which supports the efforts of cities, towns, neighborhoods and rural areas to become great places to live for people of all ages.
