The following are statistics highlighting key regional development and construction indicators in the City of Reno. The City of Reno's fiscal year begins July 1 and ends on June 30 the following year (ex. FY 25-26 runs from 07/01/25 to 06/30/26). As data becomes available the tables below will be updated to reflect current information.

Building Permits Issued by Type includes the following permit counts and information:

Commercial New Construction Permits Issued: This permit category includes any Commercial New Construction permit that has been issued.

Residential New Construction Permits Issued: This permit category includes any Residential New Construction permit that has been issued.

Sign Permits Issued: This permit category includes any Sign permit that has been issued.

Demolition Permits Issued: This permit category includes any Commercial Demolition - Interior Only, Commercial Demolition - Building, and Residential Demolition permit that has been issued.

Residential Units Created by Type includes the following permit counts and information:

Single Family Residential Housing Units (One or Two Family Residences): This housing unit category includes the housing units created from any permits that have received a Certificate of Occupancy. The occupancy groups included in this category include R-3-Dwellings/Repeat of Master, R-Duplex-IRC, R-Dwellings/Repeat of Master-IRC, and R-Single Family Residence.

Multi-Family Residential Housing Units (Apartments or Multi-Family Housing): This housing unit category includes the housing units created from any permit that that have received a Certificate of Occupancy. The occupancy group included in this category is R-2. 

During the application process for a building permit there are three overarching steps. These steps are submittal, review, and inspection. During the submittal process an applicant for a building permit must submit the required documentation and building plans associated with a permit. Once all of the relevant documentation has been submitted and approved by City of Reno Building & Safety staff the permit is moved to the review step. During the review step the documentation is reviewed for code compliance. Once the permit has completed the review step the building permit is issued.

In reference to the above data tables the information provided represents only permits that have moved past the initial submittal and review process and have been approved to begin construction. 

Once a building permit has moved through the submittal, review, and inspection steps a Certificate of Occupancy (CofO) is issued. The CofO serves as verification that the building is safe and ready for human occupancy. This represents the final step in the building permit application process.

This section serves as a placeholder for historical data. As future fiscal year data becomes available, past historical data will be moved to this section for review.
