The Reno Redevelopment Agency (RDA) invites businesses and properties within Redevelopment Areas 1 and 2 to participate in the ReSecure Pilot initiative. This pilot provides a dollar-for-dollar match of up to $5,000 per eligible business or property for safety-focused improvements. The match funds will be reimbursed upon completion of the upgrades.
"ReSecure will provide additional support to businesses looking to strengthen their security features,” said Reno Mayor Hillary Schieve. “I encourage all eligible businesses and property owners to take full advantage of this valuable opportunity.”
Applications are open now through June15, 2026. Businesses and property owners can apply through the registration link.
Improvements must be aligned with Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) principles. CPTED is a crime prevention approach that focuses on how the built environment can reduce opportunities for crime and enhance safety. Its core principles include natural surveillance, natural access control, territorial reinforcement, and maintenance.
Personnel from the Reno Police Department and City of Reno Code Enforcement are trained in CPTED-based assessments and will support the program’s safety goals.
This pilot program comes after businesses located in Redevelopment Areas 1 and 2 expressed interest in improving physical site conditions to enhance safety and deter criminal activity.
Eligible improvements include exterior-facing or public safety-oriented upgrades such as:
- Security camera and technology improvements
- Lighting improvements
- Access control and building hardening
- Landscaping and visibility enhancements
Funding for the pilot has been approved in the RDA fiscal year 2026 budget in the amount of $50,000 for Redevelopment Area 1 and $50,000 for Redevelopment Area 2, totaling $100,000.
Selected applicants are expected to be notified by summer 2026.
