Reno Police Department Announces Two Temporary Leadership Support Roles
Retired RPD Commander Sean Garlock and retired WCSO Undersheriff Wayne Yarbrough to provide leadership support for sworn and support staff during administrative investigation
Post Date:03/25/2026 10:03 a.m.The Reno City Council today approved an Interlocal Agreement between the City of Reno and Washoe County, Nevada, acting by and through the Washoe County Sheriff's Office (WCSO). This agreement designates an Acting Chief of Police for the City of Reno and authorizes other members of the WCSO staff, or otherwise qualified individuals, to temporarily serve in administrative support roles on an as-needed basis. Washoe County previously approved this contract on March 17, 2026.
Under this agreement, Acting Chief of Police Corey Solferino, who stepped into the role on March 9, 2026, will be joined by retired Reno Police Department Commander Sean Garlock and retired Washoe County Undersheriff Wayne Yarbrough. Garlock will support the department’s sworn personnel as Acting Chief of Sworn Staff, while Yarbrough will help lead the department’s support staff as Acting Chief of Professional Staff.
This temporary leadership structure follows the City Manager’s decision to place the Reno Police Chief and five department members on administrative leave pending the outcome of an independent, administrative investigation currently being conducted by an outside agency.
“Public safety is, and will always be, our top priority,” said Reno Mayor Hillary Schieve. “I’m incredibly grateful to Acting Chief Solferino, Sean Garlock, and Wayne Yarbrough for stepping up to support the department during this time. Their experience and deep roots in this community will bring stability and strong leadership as the independent administrative investigation proceeds.”
“I want to express my deepest gratitude to Sean Garlock and Wayne Yarbrough for pausing their retirements to support the Reno Police Department,” said Acting Chief Corey Solferino. “We are fortunate to have these two titans of law enforcement willing to stand alongside us and help lead this agency forward. They know this community inside and out, and it is an honor to have them on our team as we continue the work to protect and serve the people of Reno.”
Police services in Reno will continue without interruption. Further information will be provided as it becomes available and is legally appropriate to share.
