Applications Now Open for 2025 ReStore Façade and Tenant Improvement Program

$1 million available for small businesses, property owners in redevelopment areas

Post Date:08/20/2025 2:15 p.m.
The Reno Redevelopment Agency (RDA) is excited to announce that applications are now open for the 2025 ReStore Façade and Tenant Improvement Program. This competitive program offers $1 million in matching grant funds to small businesses and property owners for façade and interior improvements, enhancing Reno’s appearance, economy, and livability.

Eligible businesses and properties must be located within the Redevelopment Areas: RDA 1 and RDA 2. The RDA will reimburse awardees for 50% of eligible costs, up to $50,000, for exterior façade improvement projects and up to $50,000 for interior tenant improvements. At select locations, matching grants for façade and tenant improvements may be combined, allowing for a maximum reimbursement of up to $99,999. Projects that are on the National Register of Historic Places or the Nevada State Register of Historic Places are eligible for a $25,000 bonus.

The application period begins today and will remain open until all funds are awarded. The application link is located on the ReStore webpage and City of Reno’s social media channels

Back in 2023 during the program’s first round of funding, 30 locations across RDA 1 and 2 were awarded funds, including 13 new businesses. In total, the funding supported 24 façade improvements and 17 interior tenant improvement projects.

“This program is incredibly important as these investments help re-energize our downtown and surrounding areas, turning them into the vibrant, lively corridors our community deserves,” said Vice Mayor Kathleen Taylor. “I want to encourage our local business owners to take advantage of this amazing opportunity and be part of Reno’s next chapter.”

Eligible project examples:

Exterior improvements may include façade painting or repairs, signage, architectural features (awnings, canopies, decorative elements), window and door upgrades, lighting, landscaping, ADA accessibility, and historic restoration.

Interior improvements may include space planning, structural modifications, plumbing/electrical/HVAC upgrades, lighting, fixtures and displays, ADA accessibility, soundproofing, safety/security enhancements, and other interior improvements that add to the functionality, aesthetics and customer experience.

The RDA is funded fully through Tax Increment Financing (TIF), a revenue source dedicated by law to redevelopment projects, and is not part of the City of Reno’s general fund.
