Locals and visitors are invited to participate in a monthly movie night! “Flicks on the Bricks: Outdoor Movie Nights” is a free, family-friendly event series taking place on the first Friday of each month from August through October at West Street Plaza. The event begins at 8 p.m., with the featured “flick” starting at sundown. The series is hosted by the Cordillera International Film Festival and sponsored in part by the City of Reno.
“We’ve been working hard to give our downtown corridor a fresh look, and free community events like these movie nights are a wonderful way for families to come together and see all the new improvements,” said Vice Mayor Kathleen Taylor. “I encourage everyone to come out, connect, and be part of the energy that’s making downtown Reno such a vibrant place to live.”
Featured movie schedule:
- August 1 – Barbie
- September 5 – National Treasure
- October 3 – Ferris Bueller’s Day Off
Before the movie begins, guests can enjoy lawn games, delicious bites from a local food truck, and grab drinks from Sierra Tap House next door. Seating is limited, so guests are encouraged to arrive early to get a table. Guests are also welcome to bring their own blankets and lawn chairs.
“We believe in the incredible power of film to unite people, and we're excited to host these events for both locals and visitors to enjoy,” said Emily Skyle, Executive Director of the Cordillera International Film Festival. “Each screening is a chance to spark conversation, foster connection, and showcase stories that resonate with audiences of all backgrounds.”
This event is part of the City’s initiative to activate the downtown Reno corridor through a series of events, concerts, movies, and more. The initiative is a result of the Virginia Street Placemaking and Truckee River Studies, which determined that events and activities would help with revitalization efforts in downtown Reno.
