In order to fully open all City of Reno pools for the Spring/Summer 2025 season, the City is urgently hiring lifeguards, hoping to offset shortages in the region. Pay rates start at $15.50 an hour for lifeguards and up to $21.00 for certified swim instructors. Applicants must be at least 15 years old. Benefits include flexible scheduling, incentive pay, lifeguard training and certification paid by the City, and a Reconnect Membership.
“The most important thing Parks and Recreation does is provide children in our community with the opportunity to be safe in the water so they can enjoy our various programs,” said Nathan Ullyot, Director of Parks and Recreation. “With the addition of the Moana Spring Community Aquatics and Fitness Center, we now have the space to meet this need, and a shortage of guards and instructors are holding us back.”
Due to the shortages in lifeguards, the City has had to limit its swim lesson opportunities and open swim times at its aquatic facilities. The shortage of available lifeguards, at times, has prevented the opening of the outdoor soaking pool and recreational pool slide at Moana Springs in order to staff other programs.
“As we expect to open all five aquatics facilities in the upcoming summer, the City of Reno needs a high number of these lifeguards in order to fully host the programs for the community including open swim and lessons,” said Danny Gleich, Recreation Manager. “Lifeguards play a crucial role to the department as they provide piece-of-mind when it comes to safety for our swimming community.”
