ReIgnite Reno offers temporary business operations flexibility

Post Date:05/21/2020 9:36 AM
The City of Reno is temporarily easing certain regulations to help businesses operate under social distancing requirements and to aid in the economic recovery from COVID-19.

“We recognize the current challenges facing businesses as they adapt to these new health and safety standards,” said Arlo Stockham, Acting Assistant City Manager for the City of Reno. “The Reno City Council has made it clear they want to find ways to assist our business community during the recovery phase of the pandemic while ensuring public health continues to be of the highest priority. These temporary regulatory adjustments offer the business community flexibility during these difficult times.”

Below is a summary of the key temporary changes:
  • Temporarily allow drive-through operations and curbside pick up for restaurants and retail businesses for the duration of social-distancing directives. No permit is needed.
  • Temporarily allow outdoor operations for restaurants and retail businesses on private property. No permit is needed.
  • Temporarily allow outdoor operations for restaurants and retail businesses on public sidewalks and rights-of-way.
    • Outdoor uses within public rights-of-way must obtain a Temporary Revocable Occupancy Permit with the City of Reno and comply with the terms and conditions. Fees will be waived for these permits.
  • Temporarily allow outdoor activities, including but not limited to distribution, warehousing, processing and assembly for the duration of social distancing directives.
    • Please review location and operating limits to prevent the creation of nuisances.
  • Temporarily allow for modifications to approved entitlement Conditions of Approval, to allow extended hours/days for indoor construction activities for the duration of social distancing directives.
Details on the temporary uses outlined above are available at Reno.gov/COVID19, in the “Business Information” section. The temporary regulatory changes are part of ReIgnite Reno, a coordinated COVID-19 relief and recovery initiative aimed to help businesses and employees adapt to and recover from the COVID-19 pandemic.

“As we work through the COVID-19 pandemic, please don’t hesitate to share other ideas for how the City can help your business succeed,” Stockham added.
