May 20, 2020 Reno City Council Highlights

Post Date:05/21/2020 8:31 AM

In our ongoing commitment to keep citizens and media informed, we’ve summarized the outcomes of a few key agenda items from today’s Regular Meeting of the Reno City Council:

B.1 & E.4.1 - City of Reno’s Tentative Budget for Fiscal Year 20/21

The council unanimously approved the staff proposal of the tentative budget. Staff explained that this is essentially a “status-quo” budget with current staffing levels in place.

The approved proposal allows for maximum flexibility for any COVID-related impact. Property tax is expected to remain at projected levels, but Consolidated Tax revenue is likely to fall due to the pandemic.

Department directors are also formulating plans for five, ten, and fifteen percent cuts to their budgets.

Councilmembers also agreed to bi-weekly budget meetings and updates. The goal is to modify the tentative budget as revenue changes during the pandemic.

Reno City Council meetings are streamed live at Reno.Gov/Meetings and televised live on Charter Spectrum - Channel 194. Past public meetings can be viewed on YouTube.
