April 13, 2020 Reno City Council Special Meeting Highlights
In our ongoing commitment to keep citizens and media informed, we’ve summarized the outcomes of a few key agenda items from today’s Regular Meeting of the Reno City Council:
B.1 - Emergency Medical Dispatch/Reno Fire Department Draw Down Plan
The Reno Fire Department Chief presented background about draw down matrices if staffing levels drop due to the pandemic. The Chief explained that department staffing has not been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, but that a draw down plan is currently in place if exposure occurs.
B.2 - Regional Joint Information Center Communications
Staff presented details and updates about the role of the City of Reno in the Incident Management and communications plan for the region.
B.3 - Social Distancing Guidelines
Council heard a presentation from staff about requirements for grocery stores and other essential business. State guidelines issued April 8 for grocery stores include requirements for the protection of employees and patrons. Council directed staff to develop similar standards for other essential businesses, including requirements for employees to wear masks and gloves and standards for reduced building occupancy.
B.4 - Public Health Emergency Advisory Board
Mayor Hillary Schieve initiated a discussion about the creation of a Board and working to bring together medical professionals and community experts to combat the pandemic. Council approved the resolution to create the 7-person recommendation panel.
