RPD officer tests positive for COVID-19
Reno Police Chief Jason Soto has reported that a member of sworn personnel assigned to the Patrol Section has tested positive for COVID-19.
The employee began experiencing symptoms of coronavirus on March 21, 2020 and immediately contacted the Health District and began to be quarantined at home. The Health District subsequently tested the employee, and yesterday evening the Reno Police Department learned the employee tested positive.
The Police Department is currently working with the Washoe County Health District, which is continuing the investigation of this case. Information about all persons who may have come into contact with the employee has been provided to the Health District.
Chief Soto will continue the employee screening policy that was implemented last week. The Police Department will also continue increased sanitation efforts throughout the department, as well as having employees separated by division and working remotely when possible, all of which were implemented in early March to reduce exposure. The Reno Police Department will continue to work with the Health District and be proactive in their efforts to protect employees.
