City Seeks Input on Potential Ordinance to Ban the Sale of Dogs and Cats in Commercial Establishments
The City of Reno is seeking input on a draft ordinance amendment to Reno Municipal Code related to a ban on the retail sale of dogs and cats in commercial establishments.
The draft ordinance under consideration would apply to pet stores and retail businesses that sell dogs and cats. This would not apply to home breeders. The draft ordinance amendments include, but are not limited to the following:
- Prohibiting the retail sale of dogs and cats in commercial establishments.
- Allowing pet stores to provide space to animal rescue organizations for the adoption of dogs and cats.
- Allowing existing legally established pet stores to continue the retail sale of dogs and cats for up to six months from the date of the ordinance adoption.
In an effort to protect public health related to COVID-19, we are asking that all comments be submitted in writing, in lieu of a public workshop, to the Business License Division at firstname.lastname@example.org or via US Postal Service to the City of Reno, Business License Division, P.O. Box 1900, Reno, NV, 89505 by 5 p.m. on Tuesday, March 24, 2020.
