On Friday, February 14, 2020 the Reno Fire Department (RFD) will be recognizing the successful completion of its 18-week fire academy by 14 recruit firefighters. The ceremony starts at 1 p.m. at McKinley Arts and Culture Center.

Prior to being hired, the RFD recruits had to go through a written test, physical agility test and extensive interview process before they were offered a position in the recruit academy.

During the 18-week academy, the recruits were trained on all aspects of operating as a firefighter with RFD including firefighting, vehicle extrication, wildland fire operations, water rescue, technical rescue, hazardous materials calls, Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and other skills.
