Following several months of collecting input from the community, the Reno City Planning Commission and Reno City Council will review and discuss the first draft of the updated zoning code at two special meetings focused on the code update. The Planning Commission workshop is set for Jan. 21, 2020. The City Council workshop is scheduled for February 11, 2020.

The upcoming meetings will address the entire development code with a focus on 10 key topics that emerged as significant issues during the public outreach process, including:

  • Code update process and scope of amendments;
  • Grading and hillside development;
  • Parking;
  • Landscaping;
  • Site and building design standards;
  • Residential adjacency standards;
  • Historic preservation;
  • Application review processes and decision making bodies;
  • Processes for flexibility and relief; and
  • Application review findings.

These workshops follow several months of collecting input from the community on the first drafts of the code language. The community feedback and the direction provided by the Planning Commission and City Council will help to shape the next draft of the code. The revised version is scheduled to be released in April 2020 for a second round of public review and input.
