November 6, 2019 Reno City Council Highlights

In our ongoing commitment to keep citizens and media informed, we’ve summarized the outcomes of a few key agenda items from today’s Regular Meeting of the Reno City Council:

H.2 - School Zone Operation

Council heard an update and presentation about safety crossings and zones near schools. Staff explained where city and state law intersect about placement and design. Council also heard about proposed costs for signals and signs. 

D.2 - Fire Apparatus Replacement Program

Council approved the issuance of medium-term bonds up to $6.5 million for heavy equipment for fire, including trucks and other public safety vehicles. This financing is expected to be used over three years in the Replacement Program schedule.

D.5 - Winter Preparedness

Staff presented the Council with updates on water flow and management. Ditch, river, and runoff mitigation happens throughout the year, but preparation is critical leading up to wetter months in the winter. Snow routes cover 2,300 lane miles across the city on a prioritized system for emergency routes.

D.8 & D.9 - Bicycle and Scooter Ordinances

Council approved Reno Municipal Code amendments to align City of Reno with existing laws for bicycles. The RMC changes would apply bicycle laws to electric scooters and dockless mobility equipment. 

G.1.1 - Citizen Appointments

Jay Kenny was appointed to the Civil Service Commission.

G.2.1 - Elected Official Appointments

Councilmember Devon Reese was elected to the position of Vice Mayor.
