Reno Fire Chief statement on pedestrian fatality
Reno Fire Chief Dave Cochran issued the following statement after the pedestrian fatality that occurred the morning of October 19, 2019:
“It is with a heavy heart that I can confirm that a Reno Fire Department ladder truck was involved in a fatal vehicle versus pedestrian accident yesterday morning. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the public and the media for their understanding and willingness to avoid the downtown area during that time.
I am deeply saddened knowing that our community has been devastated by this tragic accident. The Reno Fire Department in particular is feeling a tremendous impact and loss. No words can describe how sorry I am for those who have been affected, and I offer my heartfelt condolences.
At a time like this you may feel concerns about safety, but rest assured, the men and women of the Reno Fire Department remain committed to protecting and serving this community we call home.
The Reno Fire Department is cooperating fully with the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office, who is investigating the incident. If anyone witnessed the accident and has not yet been in contact with investigators, I would encourage them to contact the Washoe County Patrol Division at 775-328-3350.”
