City of Reno hosts tree planting at Virginia Lake Park

The City of Reno invites media and the public to Virginia Lake Park for a community tree planting event on Saturday, October 19, 2019 from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The public can register online.

“I am excited that we will come together to continue our ReLEAF Reno efforts by planting 30 trees to add fall color to Virginia Lake Park,” Reno Vice Mayor Naomi Duerr said. Duerr also represents Ward 2, where Virginia Lake resides.

Participants are asked to meet at Virginia Lake Playground, on the southwest end of the park, across from the Dog Park. Please wear warm clothes, and bring shovels, rakes, gloves and garden carts/wheelbarrows, if you have them.

The event schedule is below:

  • 9:30-9:55 a.m. - Check In
  • 10-10:30 a.m. - Planting Demonstration and Assignments
  • 10:30-11:45 a.m. - Plant Trees and Mulch
  • 11:45 a.m.-12 p.m. - Clean Up
  • 12-1 p.m. - Volunteer Lunch
