Post Date:08/01/2019 12:03 PM

Athletes 50 and older are encouraged to sign up now for the 2019 Reno-Tahoe Senior Summer Games, a popular program for seniors dedicated to promoting and implementing fitness. The Games will take place from August 14-31, 2019.

Registration is available at least two days before the start of each event via in-person drop-off* or online at Reno.gov/SeniorGames.

“Senior Games is just one way the City of Reno supports our seniors,” said Reno City Councilmember Neoma Jardon, who is also the Reno City Council liaison to the Senior Citizen Advisory Committee. “Keeping active and engaged is critical for the well being of older adults and is integral to the success of our community.”

The Games begin on Wednesday, August 14 with the Opening Ceremony from 6 to 9 p.m. at Baldini’s Casino. The Games conclude on Saturday, August 31 with the Closing Ceremony from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at McKinley Arts & Culture Center.

Competitors can participate in events such as archery, badminton, basketball skills, billiards, bocce ball, bowling, climbing wall, croquet, fly casting, go-kart racing, golf (and mini golf), horseshoes, pickleball, shuffleboard, table tennis, track & field and more. There will be opportunities to compete individually, with a partner or as part of a team. Competitors will compete for gold, silver and bronze medals according to gender, age and ability.

The registration fee is $30 per person, plus an additional $5 to $50 per-sport fee. The registration fee includes a Summer Games T-shirt, pin and a ticket to the catered lunch, also known as the Closing Ceremony. Additional Closing Ceremony lunch tickets for competitor guests and the public are available for $20.
