Site and Building Design Standards the Focus of Next Issue Sheet
Community Encouraged to Submit Feedback
Issues related to site and building design standards are next on the list to be discussed as part of the Zoning Code RENOvation project. The community is invited to review the latest issue sheet and provide comments, either through the online form or by emailing CodeUpdate@Reno.Gov. Comments are requested by August 12, 2019.
This issue sheet outlines the recommended organization and general content of development standards for Reno’s site and building design standards with specific recommendations provided on the following topics:
- Implementation of Master Plan design principles in the Regional Centers, Community and Neighborhood Centers, Corridors, Employment, and Neighborhood areas;
- Building massing and form;
- Residential lot coverage standards;
- Alley setbacks; and
- Increased step-backs for upper floors in residential areas.
The issue sheet also recommends evaluating the appropriateness of current code exemptions to minimum intensity and density standards specified in the Master Plan.
“We want to ensure that the updates to building and site design standards align with the new Master Plan and balance the interests of property owners and adjoining residents,” Community Development Director Arlo Stockham said. “This process allows us to gather input early in the process and use that feedback to draft specific changes with the community as this process continues.”
In addition to providing comments online, members of the community are invited to attend the July 17, 2019 Reno Planning Commission meeting and August 14, 2019 Reno City Council meeting where these topics are planned to be discussed.
