Free Swim Weeks for Kids in Reno and Sparks

Post Date:07/08/2019 3:51 PM
Free Swim Weeks for Kids returns July 15-19, 2019 in the City of Sparks at Deer Park Pool, and July 29-August 2, 2019 in the City of Reno at Traner and Idlewild Pools. The event is held in partnership with Renown Health at the height of summer to encourage healthy family activity for kids, ages 17 and under, all season long.

The 2017 Washoe County Community Health Needs Assessment determined that nearly 30 percent of local teens are overweight or obese. Within the age groups studied, the highest percentage of overweight or obese teens are under 15 years old.

“As the excitement of summer wears off, kids can become bored and less active,” says Renown President and Chief Executive Officer, Tony Slonim, MD, DrPH, FACHE. “Free Swim Week fosters outdoor family play time right when entertainment ideas start running low. It’s these types of activities that start to improve our community’s health, one pool day at a time.”
