City Begins to Vet Potential Amendments to Development Standards

Community asked for feedback by July 15

Post Date:06/13/2019 11:22 AM
As the next step in the Zoning Code RENOvation project, the community is asked to weigh in on potential amendments to development standards. The latest issue sheet summarizes recommendations for topics to be addressed with the code update and the general framework for potential amendments. Additional topics also are recommended to be considered through separate processes. The community is invited to provide comments, either through the online form or by emailing CodeUpdate@Reno.Gov. Comments are requested by July 15, 2019.

“We want to ensure the updates to development standards align with the new Master Plan and make the code more user-friendly for residents and local businesses,” Community Development Director Arlo Stockham said. “We look forward to getting feedback through this first step on development standards and then diving into the specific changes with the community as this process continues.”

Development standards are design requirements for development and construction. These ordinances supplement building codes and generally focus on exterior requirements for buildings and property improvements, including design requirements and natural resource protection standards.

In addition to providing comments online, members of the community are invited to attend the June 19, 2019 Reno Planning Commission meeting and July 24, 2019 Reno City Council meeting where these topics are planned to be discussed.
