Post Date:06/05/2019 4:29 PM

In our ongoing commitment to keep citizens and media informed, we’ve summarized the outcomes of a few key agenda items from today’s Regular Meeting of the Reno City Council:

D.2 - Rehabilitation of Abandoned Residential Properties

Council heard a presentation about a proposed program for the city to acquire tax-delinquent properties. The goal would be to rehab the houses and transform them into affordable housing for lower-income residents. Council voted unanimously for staff to begin crafting an ordinance to create the program.

D.4 - Zoning Code RENOvation

Council heard an update from staff about zoning density and land use updates. The goal is to diversify neighborhoods with different types of buildings and uses. The RENOvation process is designed for community collaboration and empowerment. The long-term process will begin identifying how neighborhoods and portions of the city should be separated.

D.5, D.6 - Regional Transportation Commission Quarterly Update & Interlocal Agreement

Council heard updates from RTC about upcoming developments and budget agreements. RTC testified that it will spend time examining property disposal options. A newly-signed law will allow the agency to sell or transfer property for projects across the region. RTC leaders also discussed a microtransit pilot project that could bring van and bus service to outlying areas of the city that have never had those services.

G.1 - Citizen Appointments to Boards and Commissions

-Financial Advisory Board: Richard Jay

-Recreation and Parks Commission: Susan Burkhamer, Elton Rossi

-Senior Citizen Advisory Committee: Barbara Deavers, Dorismae Weber
