May 8, 2019 Reno City Council Highlights
In our ongoing commitment to keep citizens and media informed, we’ve summarized the outcomes of a few key agenda items from today’s Regular Meeting of the Reno City Council:
B.1 - Downtown Reno Business Improvement District
Council heard a presentation about the 2019 structure and potential changes to the BID/Downtown Reno Partnership. Leadership testified that they have increased personal contact with tourists, the homeless, and residents. The DRP helped remove 800 shopping carts and nearly 250 syringes from downtown. They testified that they will be hiring additional Ambassadors, including a social service specialist to help assist the transient community.
B.4 - Title 18 Amendments
Council heard reports and introduction of a suite of proposed amendments under Title 18. The title covers Municipal and Land Development code for adult-oriented businesses. Some of the changes affect conduct inside the clubs, alcohol use, signage and technical definitions.
Council approved ordinance amendments and additions to municipal code for lighting standards, work cards, and alcoholic beverage licensing within adult businesses.
D.6 - Community Court Program
Council was given an update from Judge Tammy Riggs from the Reno Municipal Court on “Quality of Life Offenses” and cases. These include non-violent crimes and minor legal issues. The Community Court is designed for reducing police officer and judicial time by connecting individuals with on-site social services instead of fines or jail time.
G.1.1 - Ward 4 Neighborhood Advisory Board Appointments
Council approved the appointment of Adam Gorciak, Arthur Munoz, and Richard Simmonds to the Ward 4 NAB.
