On Saturday, March 16, 2019, members of the Reno Fire Department (RFD) will participate in the ninth annual Shamrock Shave for the St. Baldrick’s Foundation. The event will be held at the Ole Bridge Pub, located at 50 North Sierra Street, from noon to 6 p.m.

RFD and other firefighters who participate are longtime supporters of this event and the effort to find a cure. Reno area residents are welcome to join RFD in their commitment to help find a cure for childhood cancer. Contributions from the event will go to the St. Baldrick’s Foundation.

“For children to have to fight for their lives, before they have truly started living, is tragic,” says Reno firefighter Jason Eastman, who is one of the event contacts for the Shamrock Shave. “If we can help alleviate that by raising money to fund children’s cancer research, it’s a small price to pay.”

Reno firefighters have already committed more than $2,000 to the cause this year. In addition, RFD will be wearing blue uniform shirts with green lettering to draw attention to the St. Baldrick’s Foundation and to show support for children with cancer and their families.

“The men and women of the Reno Fire Department are dedicated to our local community,” Reno Fire Chief Dave Cochran said. “We are proud to donate our time, money and energy to many different charity events. This is our ninth year doing the Shamrock Shave, and we look forward to this year and many years to come.”

The Northern Nevada Fraternal Order of Leatherheads Society, which is sponsoring the Shamrock Shave, will have T-shirts and hats for sale at the March 16 event. Organizers of the Shamrock Shave hope to reach at least $30,000 in donations for the St. Baldrick’s Foundation. People can participate and donate as a team or as individuals. Visit and search for ‘Shamrock Shave’ or call 888-899-2253 for more information or to donate.

About $12,000 has been raised so far for this year’s local event, and more than $200,000 total since the event’s inception.
