Process to fill vacancy on Reno City Council moves forward

Post Date:02/13/2019 1:17 PM

At the regular meeting of the Reno City Council on February 13, 2019, Council discussed and selected four finalists for the At-Large vacancy from each Council Member's selection of up to five candidates.

The finalists are:

  • Nathan Dupree
  • Britton Griffith
  • Krystal Minera
  • Devon Reese

The appointment process and timeline resumes tomorrow as follows:

  • *Thursday, February 14 at 5:30 p.m.: The finalists will participate in a Q&A and public meet and greet at Reno City Hall in the Council Chamber. Each finalist will be granted a brief opening and closing statement, and in between will field publicly generated questions from the City Clerk.
  • *Friday, February 15 at 2 p.m.: Council interviews of finalists and possible appointment at a Special Meeting at Reno City Hall in the Council Chamber.

* - Both meetings will be live streamed on the City of Reno YouTube channel and televised on Charter channel 194.

For background, David Bobzien previously served as the At-Large member of City Council, but recently resigned from his position to become the new Director of the Governor’s Office of Energy. Thus, a vacancy has occurred in the At-Large position.

At the regular meeting of the Reno City Council on January 23, 2019, Council discussed the vacancy and voted to move forward with an appointment process, not a special election. Per Reno City Charter and NRS, an appointment must be finalized within 30 days of the vacancy.
