City of Reno earns prestigious budget award for 23rd consecutive year

Post Date:01/25/2019 10:37 AM
The City of Reno has once again received the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA). The award is the highest form of recognition in governmental budgeting, according to the GFOA.

The award is for the City of Reno’s current fiscal year budget. The City of Reno has won the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award every year since 1996. This year’s award was presented to the City of Reno’s Finance Director Deborah Lauchner.

"I congratulate the City of Reno's fiscal team for once again achieving this national recognition for our budget," Reno City Manager Sabra Newby said. “Ensuring financial stability is one of our top priorities.”

In order to receive the budget award, the Finance Department had to satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation. The guidelines assess how well an entity’s budget serves as a policy document, financial plan, operations guide and a communications device. Budget documents had to be rated “proficient” or “outstanding” in all four of the guideline areas.
