Registration is open for the 2019 Reno-Tahoe Senior Winter Games

Athletes 50 and older can sign up now for the 2019 Reno-Tahoe Senior Winter Games, a program dedicated to promoting and implementing fitness.

The Games begin on Wednesday, January 30, 2019 with a free Opening Ceremony at Baldini’s Casino and conclude on Thursday, February 14, 2019 with the Valentine’s Dinner and Dance event at the Eldorado Resort Casino.

Registration is available through January 14 by mail; or by January 30 online at or via in person at one of the following facilities:

  • Evelyn Mount Northeast Community Center - 1301 Valley Rd.
  • Neil Road Recreation Center - 3925 Neil Rd.
  • Teglia’s Paradise Park Activity Center - 2745 Elementary Dr.

Competitors can participate in such events as archery, basketball skills, beanbag baseball, bowling, climbing wall, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing, downhill snowboard and ski racing, fitness events, go-kart racing, obstacle course, pickleball, shuffleboard and more. There will be opportunities to compete individually, with a partner or as part of a team. Competitors vie for gold, silver and bronze medals according to gender, age and ability.

“Keeping seniors active and engaged in a fun and healthy way is critical to our success as a community,” said Reno City Councilmember Neoma Jardon, who is also a member of the Senior Citizen Advisory Committee. “We are fortunate to be able to offer seniors the chance for some friendly competition with their fellow community members.”  

The registration fee is $30 per person, plus an additional $10-$20 per-sport fee. The registration fee includes a Winter Games T-shirt, pin and a ticket to the Valentine’s Day Dinner/Dance and Closing Ceremony. The Valentine’s Day Dinner/Dance will be held at the Eldorado Resort Casino on February 14 from 5:30 p.m to 9 p.m. Additional Dinner/Dance tickets for competitor guests and the public ($30) will be available.

The Reno-Tahoe Senior Winter Games are organized by the City of Reno’s Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department’s Senior Services Division.

The City of Reno is also grateful to its sponsors: Baldini’s Casino, Boys & Girls Club of Truckee Meadows, Champion Awards and Engraving, Double Diamond Athletic Club, Eldorado Resort Casino, Fly High, High Desert Archery, High Sierra Lanes, Mesa Rim Climbing Center, Need 2 Speed, Senior Care Plus and Washoe County Human Services Agency. The sponsorships and support help run the events and keep the costs low for all senior participants.
