December 12, 2018 Reno City Council Highlights
In our ongoing commitment to keep citizens and media informed, we’ve summarized the outcomes of a few key agenda items from today’s Regular Meeting of the Reno City Council:
E.1 - RFD Livesaving Medal
Council heard a presentation and award of the Reno Fire Department of the Medal of Livesaving to firefighters Justin Aytes, Maurice Carter, Tom Dunn and Justin Mitchell. The heroes de-escalated a tense situation with a distraught individual, saving the lives of others.
H.4 - Artown Sponsorship
Council approved sponsoring the July, 2019 Artown Festival. The Reno City Council has been supporting the fpestival since 1997. The money is being allocated from Room Tax Funds.
J.2 - Fire Apparatus Replacement
Council heard a presentation about the status and future plans for Reno Fire Department equipment and vehicles. This year the city acquired three new engines with a combination of city funds, one-time grants and other sources.
Council heard a presentation from staff regarding an ordinance and a current overlook of energy efficiency throughout the city. The proposed ordinance would require commercial buildings to benchmark and rate energy and water use. If approved, the ordinance would be phased in over a three-year period.
Council provided direction for staff to negotiate a lease with an option to purchase property at 290 Keystone Avenue. The applicant, Jacobs Entertainment testified that they have hopes for mixed-use development at the location.
