November 14, 2018 City Council Highlights
In our ongoing commitment to keep citizens and media informed, we’ve summarized the outcomes of a few key agenda items from today’s Regular Meeting of the Reno City Council:
C.1 - Proclamation
Councilmember McKenzie recognized November 12-16 as National Apprenticeship Week. Randy Canale accepted the proclamation and promoted the advancement of women in the trade industry.
D.1 - Meritorious Service Medal
Officer Thomas White saved lives and ended a threat inside a casino in February of 2017. “This man’s actions were outstanding,” said Reno Police Chief Jason Soto. Officer White confronted an armed suspect and was able to protect visitors and patrons.
F. & G. - Canvass of the Votes; Swearing in
Council formally accepted and approved the final votes in the 2018 election. Outgoing Councilmember McKenzie was honored by the council. New Councilmember Bonnie Weber was sworn in and joined the council on the dias. Councilmember Naomi Duerr and City Attorney Karl Hall retained their positions and were sworn in as well. Finally, Mayor Schieve was sworn in for her second term in office. She thanked Vice Mayor Jardon and former Mayor Sferrazza for their support and friendship.
Downtown Reno Ambassadors
Council was introduced to the first members of the Downtown Reno Ambassador program. They were hired as part of the new Business Improvement District for Downtown. The ambassadors will help maintain a quality and safe environment for visitors and Reno locals to enjoy all of Downtown safely.
N.1 - Citizen Appointments to Boards and Commissions
Council approved Teela McCullar’s appointment to the Financial Advisory Board.
N.2 - Vice Mayor
Council approved Naomi Duerr as the new Vice Mayor.
