The Community Development Department is responsible for the physical development of the City. The core service areas of the department include: housing and neighborhood development, planning, engineering, building and safety inspections, and business licensing.

City of Reno partners with community for Valley Road cleanup
The City of Reno is hosting a community cleanup on Saturday, October 20, 2018 from 9 a.m. to noon in the Valley Road neighborhood.
The central location for the cleanup, a public/private partnership, will be at Silver State Eatery, located at 1771 Valley Road. Volunteers will meet at the Silver State Eatery, and will be asked to pick up trash along the streets and in neighborhood parks, such as Dick Taylor Memorial Park. Mari Chuy’s Mexican Kitchen will host a barbecue for volunteers after the event.
The City of Reno and partners, which include Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful (KTMB) and The Associated Students of the University of Nevada (ASUN), are looking for more cleanup volunteers. UNR student volunteers should register online. Other community members wishing to volunteer can refer any questions to Reno Direct at 775-334-4636.
If you’re volunteering:
- Wear comfortable shoes.
- Bring a refillable water bottle.
- Wear sunscreen, and bring a hat and sunglasses.
- Bring a lightweight jacket, in case you get cold.
Items that will be accepted during the cleanup:
- Trash, yard waste and debris
Items that will not be accepted during the cleanup:
- Hazardous materials (including paint or oil)
- Refrigerators or microwaves
- Electronics (such as televisions and computers)
- Scrap metals (such as lawn mowers)
- Appliances (such as refrigerators or microwaves)
