Sophie the dog to be named Reno Mayor for a Day to help SPCA
Every dog has her day and for Sophie that day will be Wednesday, September 12, 2018 as she will be declared the official Mayor for a Day in Reno.
Visitors and media are welcome to join at the Council Chamber (located at 1 E. 1st St. in Reno) at 9:30 a.m. to observe Reno Mayor Hillary Schieve give an official proclamation naming Sophie the Mayor of Reno for the day. After the proclamation is read, the day will continue with a photo shoot at various landmarks around Reno's Midtown area.
The final stop will be at the SPCA of Northern Nevada, where Sophie will receive a “retirement package” of all the treats and toys a hard-working dog like Sophie deserves!
Sophie is the dog of Sarah Rock, part of the family who owns Consign Furniture. Alan Rock, the owner, recently attended the SPCA of Northern Nevada’s annual fundraiser gala “An Affur to Remember,” where he bid on this unique and adorable prize, winning it for Sarah and her dog Sophie. Events like these help not only raise crucial life-saving funds to help homeless pets in our community, but they also raise much needed awareness about animal welfare.
The SPCA would like to thank Executive Limousine, which graciously donated their services again this year so that soon-to-be dog Mayor Sophie and her owner can travel around the city in style on the big day. The organization is also very grateful to Mayor Schieve, who has once again donated this prize package to help save lives.
The SPCA relies solely on donations from our community. If you would like to make a one-time, monthly or yearly donation, visit spcanevada.org or call 775-324-7773 x204. The shelter is always in need of dog and cat food, bleach, hand wipes, paper towels and other necessities.
