City of Reno invites community to Traner Pool grand reopening
The public and media are advised that the Traner Pool repairs and enhancements project has been completed in time for the facility’s grand reopening on Monday, June 11, 2018 at noon. The free community event includes a ribbon cutting, ice cream donated by Model Dairy and an open swim from 12:30 to 8 p.m.
The Traner Pool facility was severely vandalized in March 2017, with significant damage occurring to the mechanical and electrical equipment. The pool, normally open during the summer months, was not in operation during summer 2017.
“We are incredibly thankful to our community for stepping up to ensure that only one swim season was lost,” Reno City Council member Oscar Delgado said. “Community partnerships are invaluable to our City and neighborhoods, and now we have what feels like a brand new pool in the northeast community.”
The $1.2 million project was supported by a total of $875,350 in generous donations from:
- William N. Pennington Foundation - $800,000
- Northern Nevada Building & Construction Trades Council Development Corporation - $50,000
- Lifestyle Homes - $25,000
- Dr. and Mrs. John Williamson - $200
- Barbara Miller - $100
- Joanne Newbury - $50
Additional in-kind services were generously donated by:
- Farr West Engineering (civil engineering services) - $7,800
- D&D Roofing and Sheet Metal, Inc. (replacement of mechanical building roof) - $2,500
The Traner Pool facility was built in 1973. The repairs include new boiler equipment, chemical system, HVAC system and electrical wiring. The project also included American Disabilities Act (ADA) improvements, replacement of the main roofs, lighting upgrades, additional perimeter fencing with security wiring, the addition of security cameras and an upgraded alarm system.
The enhancements of the project include an improved spray pool area with more interactive play features and new signage and landscape improvements to the front entrance of the facility.
After June 11, daily fees at Traner Pool are as follows:
- Child (0-5 years old): $2
- Youth (6-17): $2.50
- Adult (18-49): $4
- Senior (50+): $2
