Community invited to weekend Rose Pruning Demonstration

Post Date:04/06/2018 11:06 AM
The community is invited to attend a free annual Rose Pruning Demonstration sponsored by the Reno Rose Society and the City of Reno Parks, Recreation and Community Services department.

The demonstration will occur on Sunday, April 8, 2018 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Municipal Rose Garden, located east of the California Building in Idlewild Park. This is a great opportunity for citizens to brush up on their rose-pruning techniques for the variety of different rose types.

This demonstration instructs on the pruning needs of individual rose types based on rose species and the best time of year in our area to prune them. The garden has many species of roses, including climber, miniature, hybrid tea and floribunda.

Please bring gloves and sharp bypass pruning shears to help prune the roses after the demonstration. Consultants from the American Rose Society and the City of Reno Horticulturist will be on hand to answer questions on all aspects of rose culture and pruning.

“Volunteer hours go a long way in maintaining this beautiful rose garden within the City of Reno,” said the City's Horticulturist, Pam Bedard.

For more information, contact Bedard at 775-657-4616.
