Post Date:04/03/2018 10:56 AM
The 2017 Exemplary Knighton Award for best performance audit in the Extra Small Shop category has been awarded to the City of Reno Internal Auditor’s Office by the Association of Local Government Auditors (ALGA).

This will be the first ever Knighton Award presented to an audit shop located in the state of Nevada. The Knighton Awards recognize the best performance audit reports of the preceding year.

The report, City of Reno 17-03 Cash Handling Part B - Cash Procedures and Testing, was judged on several key elements, such as the potential for significant impact, the persuasiveness of the conclusions, the focus on improving government efficiency and effectiveness, and its clarity, conciseness and innovation.

According to ALGA, the audit is a thorough and well-documented examination of an issue that affects a broad swath of the public. In particular, the audit consistently clarified for the readers why the findings mattered to policymakers and citizens.

The awards will be formally presented at ALGA’s Annual Conference in Colorado Springs on May 7, 2018.

The City of Reno’s Internal Audit Mission Statement is as follows: To provide the City of Reno with an independent appraisal function designed to assist the Reno City Council, citizens, and City management in establishing accountability, transparency, and a culture of continuous improvement in City operations.
