Vehicle versus pedestrian accident during protest at the downtown Reno Arch

At 6:41 pm the Reno Police Department responded to the downtown arch on reports that a vehicle had driven through a crowd of protesters who had occupied Virginia Street.  One adult female was transported to Renown for non-life threatening lower extremity injuries. Four others were treated on scene for minor injuries.

Some of the protesters were from the American Indian Movement of Northern Nevada.  Approximately 40 individuals were blocking Virginia Street at the arch.  The driver of a Nissan pickup drove southbound on Virginia Street and stopped in front of the protest.  Several of the protesters approached the vehicle.  There was a confrontation between the occupants of the vehicle and the protesters that went on for approximately one minute.  At some point during the confrontation with the protesters, the driver of the vehicle drove forward through the crowd before leaving the scene.

The driver of the vehicle stopped several blocks away and called RPD to provide his account of the events.  He and his passenger were interviewed and are cooperating with the ongoing investigation.
