City of Reno wins prestigious budget award

Post Date:03/19/2014 11:09 AM
The award is the highest form of recognition in governmental budgeting, according to the GFOA.

Office of Management and Budget Director Kate Thomas, as the individual who oversees the department, received a Certificate of Recognition. Thomas and her team were honored at the Reno City Council Meeting on March 12.

“This is not the first time our Office of Management and Budget has won the award,” City Manager Andrew Clinger says. “Not only is the budget department doing a fantastic job of fiscal planning currently, they’re doing it on a consistent basis."

The City of Reno also won the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for its annual budget for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2011.

In order to receive the budget award, the Office of Management and Budget had to satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation. The guidelines assess how well an entity’s budget serves as: a policy document, a financial plan, an operations guide and a communications device. Budget documents had to be rated “proficient” in all four categories.
