City of Reno City Hall
Metro Gallery
September 9 – October 24
Reception: October 3, 5 – 7 PM

Reno City Hall Metro Gallery is proud to host “Icons of Mid-Century Nevada,” paintings and prints by Greg Allen.  The works in this show serve as a monument to a disappearing history of Nevada.  At once wholly subsuming and touchingly intimate, each painting and print catches a moment or place familiar to every Nevadan.  Most of the iconic buildings and signs are gone, giving the show the quality of a dream or memory.  Rendered in photorealistic detail, Allen’s works serve as a warm breath of nostalgia at first glance but on closer inspection are a reminder of the unyielding march of time and the quickly forgotten past.

Greg Allen was born in Los Angeles in 1961.  He moved to Reno in 1988.  He was originally a freelance illustrator and has been painting since 1994.  His work has been exhibited in museums and galleries in the Southwestern and Western United States.  His pieces are also in many private collections in the United States, Europe, and South America.

Metro Gallery, located on the first floor of City of Reno City Hall is one of three galleries operated by the City of Reno. To learn more please visit our website.
