Summer Splendor Reception

Reception for:

Summer Splendor
Sierra Watercolor Society

McKinley Arts & Culture Center
Gallery West
June 3 – July 12, 2019
Reception: June 13, 5-7pm

A watercolor painting of kale in greens and purples.McKinley Gallery West presents “Summer Splendor,” an exhibition by the Sierra Watercolor Society.  The works in this show bring a feeling of lushness and abundance to the viewer.  The pieces range from delicate and subtle to vibrant and bold.  Many are traditional, realistic renderings while some are modern abstractions.  Each piece is meticulous, layered, and beautiful.  All the subjects of the works bring to mind the warmth and growth of summer: there are riots of flowers and plants, flocks of birds and herds of animals, sunlit architecture, and still landscapes.

The Sierra Watercolor Society is a not-for-profit organization that holds five member shows and four workshops per year.  They host public meetings and artist demonstrations.  The Society’s mission is to increase interest and skill “in the art of water-media painting.”  The members come from all walks of life and give back to the community through educational programs and volunteer work.  More information can be found on their website:
