The Community Development Department is responsible for the physical development of the City. The six core service areas of the department include: housing and neighborhood development, planning, engineering, building and safety inspections, business licensing, and code enforcement.

A joint meeting between the Reno City Council and Reno Planning Commission has been scheduled for Tuesday, January 29, 2019 from 3-7 p.m. This workshop will serve as an important milestone in Zoning Code RENOvation, the city's project to comprehensively update its Annexation and Land Development Code (Title 18 in Reno Municipal Code). Direction provided at the workshop will provide guidance on a set of key issues that will be used to determine the overarching approach to drafting the updated zoning code.
