Cadence Matijevich

Assistant City Manager

 (775) 785-5876

Cadence’s strong leadership skills have promoted her to the top of the organization as she has continually taken on and completed significant projects successfully.

As Assistant City Manager, Cadence oversees the City’s Special Events Program, Government Affairs Program, the Office of Communications and Community Engagement (OCCE) and City Council Agenda Management/Special Projects.

These different areas of responsibility allow her to contribute to the success of the organization in many ways. Special Events contributes to the quality of life for residents and provides for economic development by bringing visitors to our community. By maintaining relationships with State and local government partners, the City’s Government Affairs team ensures that the City is engaged in addressing those issues that matter most to the region and to the State as a whole. OCCE works to connect City government with the people it serves. By communicating with residents on a regular basis, through various media, the City ensures that residents have the information they need to live, work and play in this exceptional community. Supporting the City Council through providing them with staff reports that contain well-researched, comprehensive and accurate information, Cadence helps to assist the Council in making sound decisions regarding the policies they set for this City.

Cadence joined the City in 2005 as Special Events Program Manager. She added State and Local Legislative affairs to her responsibilities and was promoted to Director of Government Affairs in June of 2011. Cadence became Assistant City Manager in February 2012.

Prior to her time at the City, Cadence worked for ESPN Productions, Inc. for eight years, planning and producing proprietary events for the network such as the ESPN Great Outdoor Games, X Games, Winter X Games, X Trials, B3, ESPY Awards and ESPN Action Sports and Music Awards. Her work on the ESPN Great Outdoor Games brought her to Reno in 2003 and sold her on this community as the place to make home. Before working for ESPN, Cadence was an Operations Manager for Reebok International, Ltd.

Cadence has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Point Loma Nazarene College (now University) in San Diego, California.

In 2011, the Nevada League of Cities & Municipalities recognized her as Staff Person of the Year. She was a City of Reno Employee of the Quarter in 2007. She is an ICMA member.

At both the City of Reno and at ESPN, Cadence says she has been fortunate enough to have served in jobs where she was the first person to ever hold the position. She considers her accomplishments in establishing those positions and their value to those respective organizations as very important. She also considers learning the legislative process and creating a reputation for herself as an effective representative of local government at the Nevada Legislature within one Legislative Session to be an important accomplishment.

Cadence is passionate about providing exceptional customer service to the City, residents and colleagues. As the daughter of a United States Marine, she learned at an early age that there is no greater privilege than to serve one’s community. By aiming to provide exceptional customer service in all that she does, she hopes to earn the respect and trust of those that she serves.

Most weekends you will find Cadence spending quality time with her husband Eric and their canine companions. Be it relaxing at home or out enjoying all that Northern Nevada has to offer under its sunny skies, the weekend is when she connects with her family and recharges her batteries.
